14U (Bantam)

Bantam - Vision

Bantam Vision - Players will be exposed to a more physical level of competition in Bantam and have the opportunity to tryout for A teams or be evaluated by the Association to play in a recreational B or C division.  Given the physicality, the coach's goal should continue to promote enjoyment of the game but also include individual technical skill development, Team systems and some form of dryland strength and endurance training.  The time commitment in Bantam/Midget will increase as well with up to 2 practices / 2 games per week in some cases.  Coaches are encouraged to work with the Posse Coaching curriculum to ensure they are teaching transferable skills and utilizing drills that will serve as a foundation to build from in Bantam/Midget.  As in all levels of play, the ultimate measure of a coach is not the win/loss record, but athlete retention; where all players return to register the following season.

Team costs should be planned for in a team budget and agreed to by the parents.  Collecting seed money or fundraising to cover tournament fees etc. is acceptable but funds should be deposited to a bank account opened for the team.  Families are not obligated to participate in tournaments or any additional fundraising beyond their registration fee so it is important to present a proposed plan at your parent meeting early in the season to gain support.  All parents must sign off on the budget at the outset of the season, with copy sent to division director, and again at the conclusion of the season.  Any leftover seed money must be returned to the members by July 30th and a final copy of the budget forwarded to the division director.  Any funds remaining after the seed money has been paid back to parents; becomes the property of the Parkland Posse Lacrosse Association and a check clearing your account should be turned over to the Posse Treasurer by July 30th.

Coaches and bench staff require a Competitive Introduction clinic to be completed and must be certified in order to accompany a team to Provincials at Bantam/Midget.  It is the volunteer's responsibility to complete the required course and the subsequent workbook before the end of the playing season.  The certification process also requires an ALA representative to attend your practice before your can be certified.  This needs to be coordinated through Lisa Grant at the ALA.  More information on coaching requirements can be found on our website.

Managers should familiarize themselves with all the information on our website.

Although the minimum requirements can be found on the equipment page of our website we strongly recommend that all players at Bantam/Midget have now invested in lacrosse specific padding/equipment which provides superior protection than the oft used hockey gear.

Goalie selection/development - Goalies should be coming to you with the fundamentals of good goaltending as included in the Posse coaching curriculum (coming soon).  Players at this age can no longer be equipped by the Parkland Posse Lacrosse Association as gear should be custom fit to the size of the player to provide maximum protection.

As an association, we are hoping to see every one of these players commit to lacrosse as their spring sport.  Team sizes are subject to GELC guidelines:  Bantam/Midget rosters of 12-18 runners, with 2 goalies are permitted.

Any questions about your season should be directed to your Division Director-James @ pbmdirector@parklandposse.com
