When Russ Sheppard took the job in Kugluktuk, Nunavut, he had no idea what was in store! An avid lacrosse player, he introduced the sport to the local youth, and the rest is history. And now history has been made into a feature movie. THE GRIZZLIES is launching this weekend across Canada, including Calgary and Edmonton! Alberta has a special tie to this story as many of the original Kugluktuk teams played in Alberta including the Edmonton Warriors tournament and Canada Field Championship held in Calgary. It’s also important to note that a number of Inuit players including Kyle Aviak, a main character in the movie played by Booboo Stewart played in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League. The Real Russ Sheppard will be in Calgary Saturday night and in Edmonton Sunday afternoon to answer questions about this amazing True Story!
Opening weekends make or break Canadian films. Please tell your friends! The more people who come out to see THE GRIZZLIES this weekend, the greater the chance it will get a wider release and reach more people.
