U13 Coaching Approach

Coach requirements

Coaches and bench staff require a Community Development course for this level.  It is the volunteer's responsibility to complete this course and the subsequent work book before the end of the playing season.  More information on coaching requirements can be found on our website.  

Goalie selection/development

Goalies should be coming to you with the fundamentals of good goaltending (see 10U Coaching Approach page) and in addition you should be giving the goalie an opportunity to work on the following in your practice plans:

- Outlet passing, short and long throws

- Aggressive to bring in loose balls, command their crease

- Understanding of delayed penalties, running to the bench

- Ownership of communication in their zone, leadership for defenders, alerting teammates to ball location
